OCMEA Meeting Notes 8/28/00

* Denise began the meeting with a discussion about changing our regular meetings from the first Wednesday of the month to the first Tuesday or Thursday of each month. We decided meetings will take place on the First Tuesday of Each Month.

the concern is that a large number of members are enrolled in an Ethics class that meets from 6-9pm on Wednesday.
we will need to reschedule Dr. Winship’s presentation for the group, since she was scheduled for a Wednesday

* The officers decided to have the "Welcome Back" meeting on Tuesday September 5 at 6:30pm in Geoffrey Courtyard.

The purpose of this meeting is to pass out membership information, inform members of upcoming activities, and introduce the freshman
pizza and pop will be purchased with our chapter’s money
Denise will visit Music 241 to invite all the sophomore education majors to attend
Kasey will hang posters in the conservatory
Alison will send out invitations to last year’s members
Denise and Pete will take care of ordering the pizza and purchasing pop

* The officers also decided the group picnic at Hocking Hills will be on Sunday September 24.

departure time from Capital will be decided upon by those who are interested in going.
food will be purchased with the chapter’s money

* Denise reminded the officers that we will need to be recruiting people to help with the Homecoming booth on the first weekend of October.

* The officers are also planning on having a movie/pizza party & possibly a trip to the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame (with Homecoming booth $ ?)

* Mr. Swearingen suggested that the members help with the state marching band finals.

Denise will check with Dr. Swinehart to find out who is in charge, so we can get more information.

* Denise is interested in forming a committee to review the bye laws second semester

* The officers also discussed the procedure for electing Freshman and Sophomore representatives.

We decided that everyone who is interested must write a letter stating why they feel they are qualified, as well as why they want to be elected to the position

The announcement of this procedure will take place at the September 5 meeting.

Voting will take place at the October meeting (sophomores vote for sophomores,freshman vote for freshman)
